Synchrotron radiation is highly directional light emitted when electrons traveling straight ahead at nearly the speed of light are bent by a strong magnetic field, and its brightness is over one billion times higher than that of sunlight. In 2023, a new 3GeV synchrotron radiation facility for soft X-rays (NanoTerasu) (*)will be completed in the "Science Park" area established as a place for co-creation at Tohoku University&#39;s new Aobayama Campus. "Science Park," with an area of approximately 40,000 square meters, is a place where people from academia, industry, and local government can gather and establish a base for accelerating research and development using synchrotron radiation facilities and other research equipment owned by the university. NanoTerasu is a key visualization tool for the co-creation of new value through research and development at "Science Park," and as an academic member, we will support the design and operation of the "beamline," a place for controlling and measuring light in this synchrotron radiation facility.. Our mission is to use the synchrotron radiation produced at this facility to precisely observe phenomena occurring in the moment, and to strategically create innovations that will leave a cultural, academic, and industrial legacy for future generations. “Coalition”: a new concept of cooperation between academia and industries The “Coalition” is a new concept for utilizing NanoTearsu. For industry members, it is “a framework for accelerating research and development with a shared exit vision through one-on-one partnerships with academic partners who have the necessary expertise and measurement technologies.” For members of academia, it is “a framework that provides opportunities to discover new themes related to scientific research and the development of advanced measurement systems latent in the challenges faced by the industry.” Companies, research institutes, and universities that have agreed to the “Coalition concept” have already contributed funds for the construction of the facility and are participating in the project as “Coalition members.” Under this concept, they have already started feasibility studies. *Official name: 3GeV synchrotron radiation facility. “NanoTerasu” is a nickname.
